Apple Cinnamon Puffs

Delicious Weekend Brunch Treat

This is a delicious treat for a brunch with friends or a weekend treat for yourself.  Served here with a Pineapple orange smoothie.  Use the stainless Bowl and Roller assembly.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup rolled oats (not instant)
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 1/2 tsp. yeast
  • 2 cups flour ( plus approx. 1 1/2 cup reserved for later)
  •  1  diced apple

Coating:  1/2 cup melted butter, 1 cup sugar and 1 tbsp. cinnamon

Scald milk remove from heat and add the next 4 ingredients. Cool to lukewarm and add the egg.  While this is cooling stir the 2nd amount of sugar and warm water, sprinkle yeast over and let stand for 10 minutes. Add this to the egg mixture and pour into stainless steel bowl.  Add the first amount of flour and blend till smooth, add the apple..  Gently add enough of the remaining flour till dough pulls away from roller. Then continue kneading with the dial turned to about the 3 o'clock position.  Knead for 4 minutes until smooth.  Allow to rise covered in a warm place till double in bulk approx 1 hour.  Once doubled in size knead again with dial at about 3 o'clock for another 2 minutes and then remove from bowl and divide dough in half. Roll each piece into a long log and cut into 12 equal pieces and roll into balls.  Place each ball into a greased muffin tin.  Cover with towel and allow to rise again in a warm place for about 30 minutes or till doubled once again. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for  15 to 20 minutes till light brown.  Turn onto rack to cool slightly.  Once almost cool dip into melted butter and rolled in sugar/cinnamon mixture.  I placed sugar/cinnamon in sealable bag and shook lightly till covered. Delicious served warm or freeze some without coating for later, when ready to serve heat slightly and dip in coating for a fresh tasting snack.
