These were quite a shock to say the least, the thought of bread turning into a pastry seemed impossible but it does.   When I first found the recipe I just thought try a few for fun and they were a hit.  Definitely understand way called “Crack Sticks”  very additive.  Enjoy these with that morning coffee by the tree while the house is still quiet.

Accessories:  Plastic Bowl and Cookie whips
Quantity: 16 Rolls
Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Ingredients:

  • 16 slices thinly sliced bread
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese (softened)
  • 3/4 cup icing sugar
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup jam or jelly

Blend the cream cheese and icing sugar in the bowl.   Cut the crusts of the bread slices and roll flat with rolling pin.   Spread approx. 1 tbsp. of cream filling over each slice.  Spread a thin layer of jam (about 1/2 tsp per slice).  Roll up like jelly roll. Pour the butter into a small oblong dish, I use dishes for corn on the cob and this worked great. Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a small plate. Dip the rolls into the butter, do it quick so it doesn’t absorb to much then immediately roll in the sugar/cinnamon mixture.
Place seam side down on a cookie sheet and bake for approx. 15 minutes till golden.  Delicious warm from the oven or served cold is good too. These freeze really nice, just popped in microwave for a few seconds to reheat.
